As a child lying quietly in bed, I sometimes fell outwards into a sense of expanded self—beyond my body. This calm, beautiful awareness came unbidden; I assumed it was common to us all. Indeed, the sensation was so real that at some point I stopped, afraid that I was traveling too far. I am not afraid now. And I am always that child—curious and alive in the world of intuition and spirit.
historian
I worked for years in what shamanists call the “ordinary” world, as a professor of history, researcher, teacher, and administrator. As an historian, I used evidence from libraries and archives to tell a story about the past. Now, I use evidence, spoken and unspoken, from my clients to help them find something new in the living story that is their life.
mother
Being a mother has invited me to open my heart, to stay present, and to see myself clearly even when it is uncomfortable. My daughters are my children, but in the deepest sense they are their own wise selves from whom I have learned about love, generosity, anger, joy, self-compassion, and equanimity. Every part of my being has been shaped in relationship to my parenting.
student
Mine has not been a straight path. I have a PhD in History, but over the past 20 years I have also trained with medical intuitive and energy medicine workers in Canada, the United States, and the UK. I am also certified as a professional coach with New Ventures West. Approaching life with curiosity, and with what Buddhist teachers call “don’t know mind,” has helped release certainties and make room for new possibilities. There is always more to awaken to.
companion
I hesitate to call myself a “healer,” since healing feels like something I’m doing to people, and that’s not the way I work. I will listen deeply to your words, actions, and energy, and reflect back what I hear as we carry on together. In this way, I am a companion in healing, but the healer is you.
